Office XP SP1 problems (Office XP SP1)

The original version of Office XP worked fine for me -- I rarely if ever had a crash (this is on Windows 2000 SP1). Then I upgrade to Office XP SP1, and immediately Word and Access started crashing several times a day (2 to 5 times each usually). I selected the Repair option in Office XP setup, but it didn't fix the problem. Is there anything I can do except uninstall Office XP, and then reinstall the original version?

Have you tried installing Win 2000 SP 2?

I've got Win 2000 SP2 with Office XP SP1 and no unexpected problems.

I also have Norton Auntie Virus 2002 and Acrobat 5.05.

Re: Office XP SP1 problems (Office XP SP1)

    I'm running Win2000 with SP2 (5.00.2195).

The SP1 worked great for me and I haven't noticed any higher frequency of crashes since installing it.

Maybe the upgrade to SP2 for Windows will do the trick???

    Hope this helps <img src=/S/salute.gif border=0 alt=salute width=15 height=20>

    P.S. i LOVE your Access 2002 book!! <img src=/S/bow.gif border=0 alt=bow width=15 height=15>

Re: Office XP SP1 problems (Office XP SP1)

I checked my Computer properties, and it says Windows 2000, 5.00.2195, Service Pack 1. Wouldn't SP 2 be a different build number? I can try SP2, but I don't think that is the problem, because I have Office XP (from different CDs, different editions) on three computers. Only the one that was upgraded to Office XP SP1 has the problems. I think two of these computers (actually partitions, since two of my computers are multi-boot) have Windows 2000 SP1 in the Office XP partition, and one has Windows 2000, SP2.

You are the second person to suggest this, so I will give it a try. I also have Adobe Acrobat 5.05 and Norton SystemWorks 2002.

If this can be of any help (or not help)
From WOW -- WOODY's OFFICE WATCH
<hr> 4. REPEAT RECOMMENDATION: OFFICE XP SP-1 FOR WINDOWS XP ONLY
I'm getting sporadic reports of problems with people who
install Office XP, then perform the SP-1 upgrade, on
Windows 2000 machines. Some of you are having really bad
problems with system hangs and crashes.

I'll repeat my earlier comment: I've tested (actually, beat
the daylights out of) Office XP SP-1 on Windows XP, and I
feel confident in recommending that combination - providing
you take all the steps I outlined in
    http://www.woodyswatch.com/office/ar...ate.asp?v7-n04 .

I haven't tried Office XP SP-1 on any other operating
system, and I STRONGLY recommend that you don't do it,
either. If you want to use Office XP (and it has some great
features!), wait until you can put it on a machine running
Windows XP. From what I've seen, anything else is a roll of
    the dice.

P.S. Thanks for making WAW. It's great.

I know -- I am one of the people who has been corresponding with Woody about this problem <g>. I tried installing Windows 2000 SP-2 (as some other Loungers suggested), and that mostly fixed the problems, except for some with Automation between Outlook and Word. At least Access and Word by themselves are perfectly stable now, just as they were in the release version of Office XP.

Have you done any Automation code with Office XP SP-1 in this setup? Now that I have the Win2K SP-2 upgrade installed, the problems I was having with Word and Access crashing several times a day have completely cleared up, but I am having problems with some code that works with Outlook items from a Word template (it worked fine in the release version of Office XP on Win2K SP-1).

No, I haven't. But I also haven't installed SP1 of OXP yet. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15> I'm still stuck in developing in Access 97 until we're ready to start designing the next release, which will be in AXP.
