    document template (Word 97/Win 95)

I started a new job two days ago, and am trying to get the computer 'organised'. One problem I have is with the normal.dot template, for which I have been able to adjust the margins, etc under Page Setup, but I cannot remember how to change the default font. Currently it is set to TNR 10pt, which is too small for my purposes.

I have also checked the location of the normal.dot template using Find with Win Explorer, and it showed up in three different folders - all apparently retaining the default margins which I set yesterday. Which is the one being used when I open a new document?

So I have two questions really - how to set the default font and which is the normal folder in which the template should be?

Ooops - silly me - should have checked the Word FAQ which I only noticed after reading a response in another thread.

So I know how to change the default font now, but am still not sure where the template should be kept. Or can I just delete them all and start again?

Check tools | Options | File Locations to see where Normal.dot should be.

When you get there, look for the User Templates path. If by any chance you found a Normal.dot in the Startup path, rename or delete that one to avoid confusion.

How can I change the default font in Word?

Template Basics (addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm) for information on the different kinds of templates, where they are stored, and how to get them to show up under the File => New dialog.
