I have been looking for a good, preferably free, way to speak files. I tried, and got the Microsoft Reader 2 to work with TTS and the Word 2002 Word to Reader add-in. The solution is clugit and slow and worst the reader voice in Microsoft Reader is definitely artificial.

I am now playing with IBM ViaVoice TTS for Linux. The website demo demonstrates a much more natural voice. Looks like I may be able to do this using the IBM SDK and a hack to the PyBook Gutenberg reader. But, still looking for a good Win* solution.

Reason I am looking into this is to provide a better solution than the existing Microsoft accesability solutions for the sight disabled.
