    Word Language Settings (2002)

I am using Windows 98 and Office XP. After my daughter had been using Word, I found 2 extra buttons on a toolbar - those for making text go Left to Right or Right to Left. I then found that when I opened an existing document with lots of styles, some of them had complex in brackets after the description. (I *think* it was complex, anyway). I went to check my Office XP language settings, but the only enabled languages were English UK(default) and French. I took French out. I reformatted the text with those styles and the word complex disappeared from the style list, but now after bold in the style description there is a sort of squiggle like an Arabic character. Does anyone know what this means or how to get rid of it? I don't know what other language settings to change.

Sorry to follow up my own post, but this is the character that appears in the style list after bold - ﺵ
