    Newfangled Alt+Tab

    Hi

When you Alt+Tab in XP Home Edition, it displays a preview of each screen as you cycle through the open applications (as well as the list of icons).

Is there anyway of stopping this? Apart from being distracting, it seems to be slower than simply displaying the icons.

    Thanks

Dale, it seems you have installed the XP PowerToys - this "feature" was one of the "enhancements" included with them. To remove it, you need to re-run the Power Toys setup program, and de-select the Alt-Tab Replacement.

You're right - it's a lot slower, with those cute little thumbnails. Gotta wonder why it was included if it has that effect, since Alt-Tab should give you a faster way to switch applications!

Thanks, Mark. (The things I do to myself.)

But I can't find the setting in TweakUI. Do you know what it's called (and which category it's in)?

Ouch, that's the catch - it's not in TweakUI. You need to re-run the installation program for the PowerToys and select the option to Modify. If you don't have the installer handy, since Microsoft has taken it down, you can grab a copy here.

Thanks, Mark and Dave. And relatively painless it was, too.
