    OLE Server Message (A2K)

This is a message I've never seen on my system before and I'm not quite sure from whence it came. I transferred one of my databases called Membership from my regular system to my Notebook. I opened up the system on my notebook and one of the reports to verify that the transfer had gone without incident. It was OK, but when I closed the report and went back to the menu within the database I got the following message and please excuse my putting the whole thing in, but I don't want to leave anything out:

A problem occurred while Membership was communicating with the OLE Server
    Try one of the following:
*Make sure you're connected to the Network Server where the OLE server application is located.
*Close the OLE Server and restart it outside of Membership. Then try the original operation again from Membership.
*Reinstall the OLE server to ensure that it's registered.

That was the whole message. To further clarify things the real name of the system is North Toronto Horticultural Society System. It's just too long a name to keep typing over and over.

My first thought was linkage to the tables, so I relinked them with no change whatsoever. I'm really quite baffled and would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks in advance for any help coming this way.

    Andy

    Re: OLE Server Message (A2K)

What does your application do? An OLE Server can be any application that is capable of acting as an OLE Server, that is, is capable of being automated from within Access. Does your application do something like create a Word doc or manipulate an Excel file or generate an Outlook message? If so the other side of the OLE automation also has to be there on your Notebook.

    Charlotte:
Thank you for your help which, as usual, was right on the mark. One of my menus was looking for a hookup to MS Publisher 2002 and I'd not taken that into consideration when I moved it to my notebook. I guess it was my unfamiliarity with the wording of the message that threw me off.

    Thanks again,

    Andy

Glad to help. OLE Server messages can drive you crazy because they don't really mean what they appear to say. You have to get out your English to Microsoft dictionary and try to figure out what it means. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
