Formatting Column/Row Width & Height (O2K)

I've searched through all of the previous posts, and can't seem to find anything that references this issue. When I enter (by either right-clicking or selecting Format) a number Excel seems to change it, and I can't figure out how to make it stop.

For instance- I need a row height to be 22.80 points high, yet when I enter this number, hit enter, then check it again, it ends up being 23.00

I've checked my Special Ed. on O2K, checked MS Knowledge Base, and can't find a solution. Can anyone please tell me what's going on and how I can change it?

This is for a test..I've asked my instructor and he can't figure out the problem either. I've gone as far as formatting my pc (needed it anyway), but I'm now at my wits end...

Any help would be greatly appreciated-

That is because the rowheight is always a whole number of pixels, whereas the height in points can be any decimal.

So the point number you enter is rounded in such a way that the number of pixels is an integer.

ok, thanks. Does this mean that regardless of what I do, this is going to round up or down? At one point, it was going to 22.5, but I don't remember what I did.

    Thanks again-

This site is great! My problem is that I forget it's here!! Thanks for your replies. I have only two more questions. (unless your response prompts another

Is there any way to prevent the rounding? I guess, make it come up exactly as I type it in. If not, does anyone know why an Office Instructor would ask it if it isn't possible??

    Thanks again for your help

I think th eprounding is fixed unfortunately - maybe somebody else knows differently.

Your Office instructor may not be fully aware of the limitation or did not take it into account. Perhaps if the instructor has a method, you can share it with us if he/she reveals it.

Don't quote me on this, but sometimes instructors do not know everything.

It may be that it worked out on his machine! :-)

I tried your 22.8 on mine and it worked OK but 22.9 rounded. Presumably it has to do with screen resolution but I have not tested it.

That's definitely interesting. I tried every combo of screen size/resolution I could think of, and it still came up at 23. Errors are bad enough, but it drives me crazy for something like this to happen and not be able to figure out why.

    Thanks for the input though-

Well, it's probably because I'm using this Windows ME. May I ask what screen resolution you are currently using (assuming you tried it and was successful)? Anyone have any Valium you could email me (JK)

It may also be useful to know the font you are using and the font size selected.

Can you set a row height to 11.85 ?

    Re: Formatting Column/Row Width & Height (O2K)

Are there some kind of settings I'm missing here? Is there an 'option' or configuration that has made this thing goof up? I just formatted and reinstalled everything because of this.

    My specs are:

    WinME, O2K Premium, 1024x768, 32 bit color.. I've tried 16 as well.

    Thanks-

Default font, at least I presume so. Arial 10, I just tried to set the row height to 11.85 and ended up with 11.75...

    11.85 rounds to 11.9
font Arial 10 and changing it seems to make no difference
