    Format/C

    Whenever,i,hear people talking about,reinstalling Windows,they talk about doing a"Format/C"before
    reinstalling the software.
Now,i,had to reinstall,Windows+all it`s software(about 6 mnd`s ago)and i,just put the first cd-rom in and installed it over the old software and then the seccond disc.
This came up as an error,so i,installed them again(this time it was properly installed).
My quistion is however,if i,ever have to install it all again(hope not).
How do you do a Format/C,before you install Windows etc.

    Re: Format/C

To format the C: drive, you will need to create a startup floppy disk that allows access to your CD-ROM drives. Windows 98/98SE will do this for you from the Add/Remove Programs applet in the control panel.

There are also other ways to create a startup disk, but in the end it's all the same: boot with the floppy, type FORMAT C: and answer yes to the threatening message. Once the hard drive has been completely formatted, run setup from the CD-ROM drive.

Installing Windows on top of itself rarely fixes a problem, since it only verifies that the files exist in what it considers a "fresh" state. A clean installation with a formatted hard drive assures you that you are starting with a clean operating system that has no residual problems.

And don't forget to back up anything you want to keep, bookmarks, etc., they'll be toast! <img src=/S/blackhole.gif border=0 alt=blackhole width=15 height=15>
