    Startup ghost

Five to ten minutes after I shut down my pc it starts itself up. Anyone have any idea as to why?

You,should first scan your pc,online this forum has a free online scan.
Some viruses bypass your own scanner so they won`t be detected.
Maybe you have a Trojan and someone is messing with you.
Also run a spyware detecting program like Ad-aware(free download).
It,sounds to me that you have some unwanted guests.
Never heard of a pc starting itself.
So check for virusses and spy-ware.

    Good luck:Liberator.

Most newer PCs have power management options that are controlled by the system BIOS. For instance, I have a desktop machine that allows scheduled pwoer-on times, and also allows you to initiate power-on by a mouse click, tapping the space bar, and other events.

My first suggestions would be to try diabling BIOS power management. I can't provide step by step as each computer's BIOS is a little different, as are the means of accessing them - but ten to one that is where the problem lies.

For future reference, check and see if you have an ACPI-compliant BIOS. ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) compliant PCs usually have a motherboard that is always on, even when the computer is "turned off" - if you have to hold the power button in for four seconds to make it turn off, it's probably ACPI.

Do you have a modem or NIC with 'wake-up' abilities?
You wouldn't be the first to find their PC re-started whenever the telephone rang . . .

The Bios power management did the trick. I think! It's been off for 18-20 hrs and I haven't heard a peep. Thank you ALL so much!
