    Games/Freecell

    Evening -

Curious problem with Freecell (all others in Accessories/Games work ok): The cursor only works to "X" out of the program. When I move it over the game board, it turns into the Hourglass so the game cannot be played. I've rebooted, no avail.

Any hints are welcomed. Thank you.

Thanks much for your reply, Chris.

I went to the suggested site --however, I do not get any error message when opening/running FreeCell. (Am running it on Win98 2nd edition.) Only thing that happens is the Hourglass on the playing field....

    Do appreciate your prompt post.

You're welcome. I'm not into playing games (much) but the recent reference to FreeCell caught my eye.

You might want to dialogue with Woody or HIS references. Sometimes a minor problem turns out be a tip of the iceberg, and whoever tracked down the XP thing might want to expand their findings.

And after all, the main thrust of computing nowadays seems to be games and streming video, cutting edge, as it were. Payroll and administration MUST take a back seat to getting games working (big grin!).

Have you checked out http://www.123freesolitaire.com/? I must confess that solitaire with AutoPlay is a new concept to me. I thought "What's the point of playing Solitaire if you let the computer make all the moves?!!!"

Dunno whether this might help, from "

Sure enough. Microsoft has posted a Knowledge Base article
that says if you install the Speech and Foreign language
tools in Office XP - in other words, if you do a full
install - you may end up breaking Solitaire and/or
FreeCell, depending on which version of Windows you're
    running. See

    Re: Games/Freecell

    Morning -

(Chris, I'm with you. Why play a game if you're not an active participant....)

If anyone out there is interested in playing Freecell but couldn't get beyond the Hourglass, here is the result of my serendipitous "research":

I went to the ZD site to look up Tray Manager and while there, began reading some of the reviews. Lo & Behold, many writers said they couldn't play FreeCell with [new version of] TrayManager running.

Disable it and all is fine in gameland.

    That was the fix.

Now, all get back to work.
