Excel 2000 (9.0.2720)

I have a user with Windows 2000 (sp1) and profiles enabled. When he starts excel it attempts to open all .xl* files he has access to. If another profile on the same machined is logged in (in use). Excel does not attempt to open any files upon start up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Office. Any ideas?

Sounds like a corrupt profile... either that, or his script is calling all files with .xls extension instead of just giving him access to them. I would scan the script to see if anything is obviously out of order, if not, request the user backup his info, and re-create the profile.

    Hope this helps!

Has your user saved his/her files in their "XLSTART" directory? Excel will open all files in that directory on start up.

In addition to the previously mentioned XLStart folder, there is also an alternate one that can be set from Tools-Options-General Tab, you might want to check there also.

Thanks to all esp. JamesB. The user had entered a directory into the alt startup option. I had him login to the local machine only. Excel could not then find the directory he had entered and it was easy to remove the alt startup entry at that point.
