    Autotext 97 replace lost item (97)

    how to put back an AutoText heading/item label after deletion from the AutoCorrect (AutoText tab) dialogue box?
    any suggestions most warmly appreciated

    Isea,

    If (a) you have stored your autotext items in Normal.dot (which is where they are stored by default), and ([img]/forums/images/smilies/cool.gif[/img] you have not quit Word since you deleted the autotext item, then you may be able to get it back by doing the following:

    With a document (any document) open, go to Tools > Options > Save tab. Make sure there is a checkmark next to "Prompt to save Normal template".
    Close that document (and any other documents) and quit Word.
    You should then get a prompt telling you that changes have been made to the global template (Normal), and asking if you want to save changes.
    Click on "No".
    Then restart Word - your Normal.dot (and the autotext entries it holds) should be back to the state they were in the last time you started Word.
