Desktop Settings - where is the file?

When you customize the settings on your desktop - the theme for instance - can you save/back up that file? What is the file? Where is it located?

Re: Desktop Settings - where is the file?

You can save the desktop theme to a file. In Windows 2000, there is a small EXE file in %systemroot%SYSTEM32 called THEMES.EXE. When you run this, the familiar Windows 9x themes dialog will pop up. You can save the theme wherever you like.

Keep in mind that it will NOT save the icons, wallpapers, cursors and sounds, it simply creates a .theme file that references their locations on your computer. If you want to create a desktop theme that you can take somewhere else, you will need to move all those items into a single location, modify your desktop, and then save the theme and the individual files separately.
