Graphics in Word

1. Word 97 allowed you to choose the word wrapping at INSERT FILE. 2000 seems to make this a 2 step process - can this be changed?

2. Any idea why my graphics are OCCASIONALLY forced to a particular position on the page - even after I've adjusted word wrapping. (In this latest case -it's forcing it to the uppermost left hand corner.)

Thanks

Hi Karen,

I don't know about your first point, but as for your graphics positioning, could it be that 'Float over text' is selected? It's always a big grouse of mine that images are inserted like this, and then jump about all over the place till I remember to uncheck it!

I don't think so. I notice that with each "improvement" in Word, it's harder to use. In Word 7, you could check "use pattern matching" with Find/Replace; Word 97 on, you have to first click "more". Table formatting was easier before Word 2000 also, cell height & width was a lot handier than hiding all the options all over the place. Hope you find a solution.

Oh, on your second point. It is likely that it changes postion because it's anchor is tied to a paragraph. You can format it so that it's position is relative to the page or to the margin. You can do this with float over text selected also. If you clear float over text, then your graphic is inline & you can't use the text wrapping features. At least that's how it works in Word 2K.

Re: Graphics in Word

Phil,
Can you recommend a good (thorough) tutorial for the placing of graphics in a Word 2K document? I have been using Word for many years and must confess I still alternate between dragging the graphic around and just kinda hunting and pecking away at the options listed on the Layout and Advanced Layout tabs. Usually, but not always, I can get something I can live with, but I never understand how the hell I got there.

Hi Bill:

I kinda go by trial & errror myself . I'm afraid that I don't know of a tutorial. I'd suggest posting a separate question (rather than a reply) to the group. There are a number of people who use graphics regularly that might know of a tutorial.

Thanks for the tip, Phil. I sent the first post to you 'cause I've been impressed by your postings. And I'm going to keep reading 'em.

But I will post a general question as you suggested.
