    excel page setup is letter (excel 97sr2)

    Hiya - the following support query was raised.

    Our offices in Sydney are emailing excel files to our Melbourne offices.
    When our Melbourne users receive the excel files - the users cant print out the files as the printer recognises the file pagesetup as letter.
    & the Melbourne users have to reformat the excel files
    which is time consuming.

    The Sydney users have mentioned that they can print the excel files at their end & the page setup is A4.

    I'm not familiar with excel...
    Is there a setting in excel which substitutes letter paper size to set as A4?
    Is there an excel template as in the word template which could be setup as A4 in Sydney but the excel template is setup as letter size in Melbourne?
    Sydney have mentioned that the excel file could have been converted /transformed via email (which I doubt very much)

    any ideas? Thanks in advance - Diana

    Look for a template called Book.xlt in the XLStart directory.

    Another thing to check is the printer driver settings. If there is no paper format specified in the Excel file itself, XL takes whatever paper is the default for the active printer.

    Hi Legare

    If this template exists what am I to do?
    remove the template?
    is this like words normal.dot but for excel
    so should I check default paper size etc.

    what does this template Book.xlt do?

    The template doesn't manage everything that a Word normal.dot does, but you can set a number of defaults, including view, styles and print settings. So open it and adjust to what you want.

    The Book.xlt template file affects *newly* opened workbooks (Like in File, New) and gives them all formatting you put into book.xlt.

    There is (or you can create) a similar template called sheet.xlt which does the same for newly created sheets (insert worksheet). So: Book.xlt has no effect whatsoever on existing workbooks.

    Warning. If you change the Book.xlt or make a sheet.xlt, everything what you make new, will be under the conditions of these. You must evaluate the benefit and see if most of your Sheets of printing you need them in A4.

    Jan Karel and Servando are correct. Changing the template only affects new workbooks created and new sheets inserted. You could use a custom toolbar button in each office which does whichever of these is appropriate:

    Sub SetPaper()
    Dim wsWSB As Worksheet
    For Each wsWS In ActiveWorkbook
    ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PaperSize = xlPaperLetter
    'ActiveSheet.PageSetup.PaperSize = xlPaperA4
    Next wsWS
    End Sub

    or you could develop a custom userform to select one of the above choices, and other choices if you wish, or you could could set a custom button to show the setup dialog as follows:

    Sub ShowPrintPageSetup()
    'option arguments: head, foot, left, right, top, bot, hdng, grid, _
    ' h_cntr, v_cntr, orient, paper_size, scale, pg_num, pg_order, _
    ' bw_cells, quality, head_margin, foot_margin, notes, draft
    Application.Dialogs(xlDialogPageSetup).Show
    End Sub

    Or create a Custom View and store that in the Book.xlt

    Try checking out the View, Custom View menu.

    might be simpler.
