word, publisher, frontpage won't load right away (1)

My Word, Publisher and FrontPage (XP/2002) version do not load right away. For all
of the mentioned apps, there is always a small window informing me of office
installation. Why is that? I tried the typical installation as well as the
complete one. Same problem. Word takes 30seconds to load, more or less 20
for the other two apps. I once had a client server environment(5 including
the server) then switched to peer-peer hoping that it might solve the
problem but I am still stuck with it.
Do you know of any application that has some issues with the office xp?

Did you ever solve this problem. I have the same thing now and feel it has something to do with the peer network setup and logging on to a different user account than was used for installation.

Thanks, John

After installing these programs EACH account that is used (as it is logged in) will need to run a Office installer, if you do NOT let it run, you will NOT be able to open these programs. This installer makes sure that the different folders and files are in the Documents and Settings folder for that account. These folders and files (templates and etc) are required to run these programs.

Did you allow the installer run?

Have you moved the "My Douments" or any of the other folders in the D&S folder?

Thanks, I figured it out and was just about to post the solution. One thing to add; I think the user account has to be updated to administrator privileges to permit installation. At least it looked that way on my network.

Dave, at the risk of somewhat unravelling this thread, I have a couple of questions:

First, about "install for allusers". I've seen this mentioned in a few places, but not in real life on my system (XP Home SP1 & O2K Pro SR1a). Did I somehow miss it when I installed (& reinstalled ) Office? Should that option appear when installing software other than Office? Or is it inapplicable for my situation?

Second, you seem like someone who'd know the answer to my query re <!post=Office 2000 quits immediately on Win XP,212083 >Office 2000 quits immediately on Win XP<!/post>? If so, could you give me a yea, nay, or guidance there?

1. ALLUSERS is Microsoft Office Setup Property, specified in Setup.ini file in your Office installation source. For full list, see Microsoft Office 2000 Setup Properties. For more information abour Office Setup, see Office Setup Program.

2. I saw problem you described only if bootlegged setup key was used: 255503: OFF2000: Program Quits Immediately After Starting When SR-1/SR-1a Update Is Applied

Thanks, don't have the time now, but I guess I'll have to go back and do a full-on multi-user install for Office, since it's now being used in a more realistic multi-user environment (XP vs 98 earlier). I did look at all that stuff when I first setup under w98, but had forgotten about it since I didn't use it then.

And, nope, no bootlegs here, so at least that's one problem source eliminated.
