    clear recent file list (97 / 2K)

    We are consolidating some servers and moving users to one foreign to all of them. We have several scripts to automate the process but have had problems with users trying to access documents and spreadsheets from the recently used file list. Is there a way of clearing this list other than firing up word and using tools / option / general / and setting the list to 0 then resetting?

    Looks like Q205041 has the information that you need. Maybe you can incorporate it into your script. HTH --Sam

    Hmmm - Not what I was thinking of. From the file menu, where is the list of recently accessed files held? Can't find a registry entry or ini file anywhere <img src=/S/bummer.gif border=0 alt=bummer width=15 height=15>

    I don't know any Registry or File settings, but you could possibly do something in Visual Basic with

    Application.DisplayRecentFiles = False
    followed by
    Application.DisplayRecentFiles = True

    You'd have to arrange for each user to run this somehow. Maybe you could put a Macro in their Normal.DOT that used the presence of a registry setting to make sure it only did this once.

    Answer to: clear recent file list (97 / 2K)

    Worked a way around. Set tools / options / general to no recent files, close word. Export the registry key HKEY Current userSoftwareMicrosoftOffice9.0 (or 8.)worddata - settings calling it 'turn off'
    Then turn the option back on in word and export the key again calling it 'turn on'.
    Edit the first entry and append the contents of the second one to it. In effect then turning it off which clears the list then turns it back on again. <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30>
