Outline Numbering in Table (2000 SR1)

I need to do some minutes that are outline numbered, which is OK tied to heading styles, but on the right of the page I need an action column so I set up a multi row two column table but have come across two problems. Firstly instead of spiltting at the first page break the table starts on page two then splits OK over the next five pages. Secondly I cannot get the text Action column to line up with the text in the main column (due I think to "space before" in my heading styles.

Can anybody help or think of a better basic setup for this document or does anybody have a minutes template they would be prepared to share with me?

    Many thanks

Your first cell must be really huge! There are at least two things to check:

For your entire table, turn on: Table|Table Properties...|Row tab|Allow row to break across pages

For the paragraphs inside table cells, you might have to change your approach. Try starting a new cell for each level 1 heading, and turn off keep with next in the paragraph formatting for the lowest level you are using. This should make the cells break in more reasonable places.

Hope this helps. And yes, I would do this with a table, but personally I might number the items manually. Just not a big fan of Word's numbering.

To fix your alignment problems you could create a paragraph format called "First Line" which has the same "space before" as your Heading 1 and use it as the first line in each cell in the right hand column.

Thanks to both of you for sound ideas.

Checking the table properties as sugested got the table breaking more reasonably and I did create the style to match up the alignment problem caused by "space before".

The good news is that the numbering for once behaved perfectly!

    Many thanks as always
