Where is Lex?

Since I always start the Lounge with the Control Panel, I thought that I would put it on my Quick Launch. In IE, I used the Send | Shortcut to Desktop menu, then dragged the icon to Quick Launch. Worked great, and the really cool thing was that the icon was a little baby Lex . Very cute! But now Lex has gone away, replaced by the ugly-e! Why?

Your Quick Launch icon has changed?!
Right_click on the QL button > Properties > Change icon . . . what does it offer?
You may have to recreate it if it has gone for good...

Otherwise, you are aware of FavOrg ?

OK, I'll just say I'm stumped.

I think you've cleared your temp cache - whether deliberately or not is probably immaterial.

When you go to your CP from the QL link, do you see the Ugly-E or Lex?
If you see the Ugly-E try left-click-and-hold the E icon in you address bar and drag it 1" (2.5cm) or so along to the right - i.e. along the address bar - then let go.
This should cause your browser to refresh - it may take a time or to, but it should come back.
When you've done that, try re-creating your QL link.

OK - now I am flummoxed.
What happens if you just create the desktop shortcut? Does that have Lex?

Re: Where is Lex?

I've made a desktop shortcut three ways:
1) From IE while viewing the control panel. File | Send | Desktop as Shortcut

2) From IE, drop-down the Favorites, right-click on the WOPR Control Panel link and send to desktop.

3) From Win2K, right-click on desktop, new shortcut, fillin the URL, etc.

With all three ways, I get ugly-e, but address bar and favorites still have Lex. If I change the icon, my choices are only from C:WINNTsystem32url.dll

Re: Where is Lex?

I'd like to try anothe web site that has a favicon, but I can't find one. Are there any others in your favorites list?
Just for the record: this is a Win2K box running IE 6.

Now, I'm totally flummoxed. This machine has Win2K with IE5. There are no favicons in the address bar, but Lex and Gog both show up in Favorites and Desktop.

Re: Where is Lex?

I find my Favicons disappear every day and I believe this is down to the fact I have my history set to 1 day. If I do the drag-right-restore trick, the Favicon will remain on show on the address bar until midnight.
But that doesn't explain your QL problem.

I'm on W2K and IE5.5 (NOT a maximised window) and did this:

In Main Index - Favorites > Add to Favorites. (Link appears with Lex)
Favorites > drag new shortcut from list to desktop. (Link appears with Lex)
Drag Desktop shortcut to QL bar. (Link appears with Lex)

You haven't got it set to view off-line or something? Try clearing EVERYTHING from your cache....

Re: Where is Lex?

OK, I come back to work, start up the computer upon which I made the original post, and what greets me? Yep, you guessed it: there are Lex's everywhere -- on the desktop, in the Quick Launch, in the Favorites, in the Address bar.... Every experiment that I tried is now a success. My history is set to 20 days and I'm not even going to try to figure it out. It's just Lex's fault, but wait -- there's insanity here, it must be a problem with Access: can you move this thread to the Access board?

Re: Where is Lex?

I can, but ... What if someone actually responded?
Some questions in life are better left unanswered, methinks.

I wouldn't move it to Access...

Charlotte would get upset, move it to the wrong OS board, then I'd have to move it to PowerPoint. Let's leave it here.

Whew! I missed this thread when it was posted, so I'm glad you were all sensible and didn't try moving it to Access. Otherwise, the Access Enforcers, Fluffy and Fang, would have had to track each of you down through the internet and come and break your legs! The boys are so sensitive, and all that violence makes them positively ill ... after the fact, that is.
