    Search Queries (97sr2)

I'd like to create a query where the user can determine themselves what they are searching for. The field is a memo field called [Description] and in criteria I've typed [What info are you searching for?] It works if I know whats in the entire field but I'd like to be able to search by any part of field.

    any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks

Try this code. If you enter nothing, all records will be returned, while entering a string returns only records with that string.

    Like "*" & [Enter search string] & "*"

Be warned, however, that if there is a *lot* of text in a memo field, this can be a very slow process, since memo fields can't be indexed.

I was thinking that if you use a * at the beginning of a search string, the indexes never could be used.

You may be right. Of course, with a memo field the question doesn't apply since they can't be indexed. anyhow.
