Quick launch toolbar

I just swapped my laptop at work for a desk top. Work is standardised on Windows 95 and Office 97 (stone age comes to mind). I'm now trying to configure my system to the way I like it, however, my quick launch toolbar seems to have disappeared!! I miss it.

Does anyone know how I get it back? When I right click in the task bar area I don't get any options for toolbars.

Which version of Internet Explorer is installed on your desktop machine?

Beginning with IE5, the option to install the Active Desktop, part of which is the enhanced taskbar that is now commonplace, was taken away. In order to get that funtionality with Windows 95, you would need to remove any existing version of IE that is 5 or higher, and install IE4, choosing to have the active desktop installed.

Oh, and don't get me started on the stone age, it would seem that you are somewhere in the Mesozoic era, whereas I believe my company to be stuck roughly in the Paleozoic era.

After getting the quick launch toolbar back, can I then reinstall IE 5?

Microsoft - gotta love 'em, eh?

Thanks for your help. I like your PCMCIA acronym

Yes, you can install IE5 or 6 after you add the Active Desktop. I've often wondered about the rationale for that move, and while I've plenty of speculation about the "why" I have never found an answer.

Since IE4 is an older version, you can pick up a copy over at the Evolt Browser Archive.
