How to Backup files onto old hard drive

I recently installed a new hard drive and I kept the old one with the idea of using it to store backup files. I have researched different places on the Web concerning backup, including MS, but they all refer to other removable devices, such as zip, CD-ROM, etc.

Is there a way to instruct Windows to place all backup files on drive d, the old drive?

If you're using the (brain-dead) backup utility that is built in to Windows, you should be able to specify a disk location for the backup file. I don't have a 98 box to check on at the moment to verify my claim, but I know that it works that way under all the NT based OSs, from NT 4 to XP - I do it daily and burn the backup images to CD.
