    Built-In Symbol Dialog (Word XP)

    I'm trying to create a Find & Replace routine for symbols in Word XP. The one supplied by MS doesn't work right for us. I cannot get the dialog to return to me the selected symbol when I do this:

    WIth Dialogs(wdDialogInsertSymbol)
    mychar = .charnum
    End with

    The Dialog always inserts the symbol selected if you select the "Insert" button even though using "Display" it should not perform the action of the dialog box. If you select Close or cancel, it simply does that and .charnum is always empty.

    Any ideas on how to give the user a list of available symbols?

    Re: Built-In Symbol Dialog (Word XP)

    With every new version, more of the dialogs stop working <img src=/S/sick.gif border=0 alt=sick width=15 height=15>

    As a work-around, you could let Word insert the symbol (change .Display to .Show, so the macro works in Word2000 and below), and then roll back with ActiveDocument.Undo.
