Server Service Will Not Start
Here's a nice little brain-buster. I have a Windows 2000 workstation that refuses to start the Server service. I've tried many things to resolve this with little success so far:

Removed and reinstalled TCP/IP

Manually edited the LanmanServer registry key to point to the correct network adapter[/list]I've made a bit of headway, but I have run into the proverbial brick wall, with the following error message stubbornly rearing its ugly head:
(When starting from a command prompt using NET START LANMANSERVER):

The Server service could not be started.
A system error has occurred.
System error 2 has occurred.
The system cannot find the file specified.

I can browse the other computers on the small (no domain) LAN. Drives are mapped to those machines, including a Novell 3.12 server. However, those other computers cannot see the desktop machine without the Server service running. I've verified that SRV.SYS exists in the WINNTSYSTEM32DRIVERS directory, but no joy. This in turn causes the NetLogon and Computer Browser services to fail.
Anyone have an idea as to what the service is looking for that it cannot seem to find? Sure would be nice to have a computer in the workgroup that you could see!-Mark

You've probably already been there, but try these from JSI:
