Formatting lost in mail merge (Office XP)

I am losing the format from excel to mail merge when making labels. One column, formatted for currency with dollar sign and two decimal places in Excel as $14.50, comes out on the label as 14.5 in the mail merge operation in World

Nothing I do seems to change it.

Is there a fix for loss of formatting in mail merge?

This probably isn't the official way, but you can embed your merge field into a formula field and format the results.

(1) Insert field braces using Ctrl+F9
(2) Type the <font color=blue>=</font color=blue> sign
(3) Insert the merge field (press Alt+F9 to view fields so you can see it)
(4) Follow that with a numeric formatting picture such as: <font color=blue># $0.00</font color=blue> (betweeen the two closing braces)

Hi J,
Where do I do this? I am not versed in Visual Basic, but if you will tell me where to try this I will make an attempt. I can plant this formula in Excel, or the Macro I plan to create. I just don't know where to do it.

This goes in your merge document, as a more complicated replacement for your regular merge fields.
