Status Bar in Windows Explorer (Win XP Pro)

Hello all,

Simple problem. I have Win XP Pro installed on my home PC and Laptop. On the home PC all is fine, but on the Laptop (Tosh Sat Pro 6000) when I run Windows Explorer it runs without the "Status Bar" visible. I can switch it on (View... Staus Bar) but I really want it on all the time. I guess there must be a setting or maybe a switch can be added to the shortcut to explorer.exe.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Status Bar in Windows Explorer (Win XP Pro)

Thanks.... but no. Baiscally the thread you pointed me to just tells me to use View...Status Bar, which I already knew.

What I want is to have the Status Bar come on automatically every time I run Explorer. I am sure it defaulted on in earlier versions of Windows and it does in on my PC at home running XP.

Any other ideas?

Re: Status Bar in Windows Explorer (Win XP Pro)

This is all I can find MS have to say on the subject:

Address Bar and Status Bar Are Not Displayed in Windows Explorer (Q283280)

>>

SYMPTOMS
In Windows Explorer, the address bar and status bar are not displayed. In earlier versions of Windows, these features are displayed by default.

RESOLUTION
To enable the address bar, click Toolbars on the View menu, and then click Address bar . To enable the status bar, click Status Bar on the View menu.

STATUS
This behavior is by design.

Re: Status Bar in Windows Explorer (Win XP Pro)

Leif - Thanks for you help,. however I am now even more confused...

1. If this behavior is "by design" as the article you refered me to states ,then why do I see the Address Bar by default?
2. I see both the Status and Address bars on my PC at home. Why if they are not supposed to be there?
3. Presumably some of you folks out there can confirm that you do (or do not) see the Address and Status Bars by default on your Win XP setups.

What is going on?

were any of these installs an upgrade? the behavior is different with upgrades than it is on clean installs.

After making these changes did you tell Explorer to always use these settings by selecting the "Apply to All folders" in the view tab.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Bingo!!! Thanks Dave. You know I could have sworn that I had tried that, as I have used it before to get rid of those stupid Large Icons, but I guess not when I had the Status Bar switched on.

Thanks, you are the
