    Lost my Toolbars! (Office XP)

I feel like a buffoon! It's so unlike me to do something so silly. I was getting familiar with my new setup in Office XP while composing an email. I couldn't find my Standard toolbar and inadvertently turned off my Formatting. Now I cannot recover either. I need to right-click on the toolbar area to turn them on and off, so what do I do when I've lost the toolbar area?

Try finding and renaming a file called outcmd.dat that stores certain of your customizations. I don't know if it stores the toolbar customizations, but it's worth a try. (Close Outlook first before renaming, and when you restart Outlook, it should create a plain vanilla outcmd.dat again.)

Amazingly, there is no file on my computer called outcmd.dat! Since my last post, I uninstalled Office XP and then went into the Registry Editor an deleted every registry containing "outlook" and then reinstalled. Still no menu bar/toolbars. I did eventually find registry data named outcmd.dat and renamed it, then restarted Outlook, but again, no luck.

jscher2000 and MaryJ, you are the best!!! It worked, but of course, you knew that it would.

    It was a hidden file.

    Many thanks!!!
