Quick Launch Icon for Desktop Corrupted

The secretary in a neighboring office has had her quick launch icon for "Show Desktop" disappear. When I looked at her quick launch icons, she showed me a "new" icon which was labeled as "Shortcut to Show Desktop" Clicking on this opens wordpad, which shouldn't be surprising, since the icon looks like the Wordpad icon.

I checked the properties on this new icon and it shows the Target as C:/Windows/Application Data/Mic.../Quicklaunch. And when I navigate there, the shortcut shows the wordpad icon.

How do we recover the Show Desktop icon for the Quick Launch toolbar?

    Hi Samantha:
    1. Delete that shortcut.

    2. Open Windows Explorer & navigate to
    C:WINDOWSApplication DataMicrosoftInternet ExplorerQuick Launch

    3. Open another instance of Explorer & navigate to
    C:WINDOWSSYSTEMShow Desktop.scf

    4. Right drag Show Desktop.scf to Quick Launch & on the context menu, choose Create Shortcut Here.

    Cheers,

One caveat -- in the default state, the "Show Desktop" file will not display the .scf extension. So just look for "Show Desktop".

I know this is picky, but just to avoid confusion....

Thanks for reminding me. I've had "hide file extensions for known file types" unticked & "show all files" ticked for so long, I forgot there was an alternative. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
