    pick lists (excel 2000)

Is it possible to have a pick from list in excel, and be able to add free hand as well.?
I have tried the data validation path and unless someone can tell me that I can also add
free hand without having to add it to the validated list it's not what I want.
I want to be able to pass the cursor over a cell, get the little arrow, and be able to select
from the list that it gives, OR insert one that isn't in the list. Possible or not??
    Thanks

Yes, if you uncheck the "Show error message box" ,as in below, you can choose a value from the list or enter another value.
