Print Mail Merge Recipient List (Word 2002 using Windows 2000 Pro)

In previous versions of Word, it was possible to print the source document as a list but it doesn't seem possible in 2002. Does anyone know if it can be done? Thank you for your help.

In XP the source doc is actually an access database and is saved as an mdb file. Try opening Acess and then open the mdb file. From there you should be able to either generate a report or just open the table and print that. Hopefully that helps.

    Hi Rebecca:
I haven't used Word 2002 yet. Are you saying that the default data source in Word 2002 is an Access database, rather than a Word document with a table?

yes, it is. I'm not actually using XP yet either. However, I saw the mdb files when I was beta testing XP.

I work for a law firm and use a document management system; iManage. Our current version of iManage does not allow for mdb files, and that is one of the reasons we are not upgrading to XP till next year.

    Hi
When the wizard is used to create the data source the default source type is .mdb. This is a pain the derriere, particularly if the default install is Office minus access.

I am instructing our folk not to use the wizard, just create a word table or excel s/s for the data source..

The good news is that it seems as if all the dialog boxes from previous word can be found along with the toolbars so I am trying to make it look like Word 2000 / 97

    Progress

    Hi Rebecca & Geof:
Thank you for that information. It seems like every release changes something that was useful in the previous version. I still don't like the fact that Find/Replace is now a 2 step dialog box (clicking the "more" button) in versions after Word 7. (I know, it retains the more complete options after the first use, but I'm just ranting.) <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
