Populate infomation on a page (XP)

I am very new at web sites, I have a page which details a product its code, I would like to place a button on the page which when clicked takes you to an order form. This has been done, but what would be really nice would be if the product name and its code were automatically inserted in the order form.

Is this the correct forum or should I post elsewhere?

If you are using FP it is as good a place as any to start!

Did you check Post 122239? - it looks like you are after the same sort of solution.

Whoops... now I really have to confess my ignorance. I had read that post but it seems to be different from what I am after.

The information on the first page (product, product code) is just text on a page. Each product has its own page.... When someone clicks on the "order" button another page comes up for the order form. I want to be able to pick up the product and product code from the first page and have it inserted in the second.

    Clear as mud huhhhh

Well, I see it as similar in that a choice from the first page is carried over to the second, no?

Will your customers be adding different items, from different product pages, to the same order form?
(A bit like a shopping cart?)

No, in most cases customers would only be purchasing one item but maybe I should look at shopping carts anyway.

Right - I think this is going to depend on how much effort you want to put into it <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
If you want to use the shopping cart method, I think you are going to have to learn about ASP and cookies - as far as I can see there is no way built in to FP to handle it for you - not that that should from discourage you from using FP as your 'base' authoring tool. You may be able to get a ready built solution - a quick search on Google for "make your own shopping cart" threw up VP.ASP and LeCart for example.

Is a form of payment going to be required? If so, I believe you will also be getting into the realms of digital certificates and secure servers.

If you want the viewer to be able to submit a form detailing quantities of items, and you want a quick and simple solution, what about using frames? One frame can be used to display the various products, another holds the 'order form' in which the user can select any or all of the products.
