Playing movie in PPt (2000 Premium Ed)

I am trying to load a quicktime movie into a powerpoint presentation using the standard commands of Insert...Movie & Sounds...From file, and clicking on my Quicktime movie and OK. It keeps appearing as an Icon, and I can't get it to play. I'm sure PPoint plays .mov extensions...Whats up? I can play it in quicktime player just fine on my desktop? A student took the short clip on his camera (A panasonic PVSD4090), and would like to put in a presentation for example. It's just not working.
