I recently formatted my HD and re-installed Win 98. The problem I'm finding is that now when I shut down the PC it seems to hang on the "Please wait while Windows shuts down" message and never gets to the "It's safe to turn off your computer" message. I then have to turn it off manually. The strange part is that when I boot up again I don't get the "Windows was shut down improperly" message like I figured I would. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

Run a search in the Excel forum for 'shutdown' and you should come across a few other examples, such as Post 1596
Did the problem start as soon as you re-installed, or after installing other soft- or hardware?
