    FTP Documents (Word XP)

Hopefully any Word folks have automated this...

We have a document located on an FTP site that I want to open in Word.

When I record a macro to do this, an FTP login dialog box appears that lets me sign in to the FTP site. The macro records the 'document.open' command, but the login box must be external to Word as no code is recorded for the dialog box.

If I run the macro, it errors out with file/path not found as the code apparently doesn't trigger the dialog box.

Anybody have any knowledge on how to either bring up the dialog box via code or anonymously log into the FTP site via code?

This prompt appears in Word 97 but not in Word XP.

    Thanks

What are your Macro Security Settings set on? If they are set on High, it won't let you run any macros...I'm pretty sure that XP has the macro security set at High by default.

    Hope this helps,
    Becky

    Becky,

Thanks, but the macro runs. It just errors out in Word XP where in Word 97, a name/password dialog box would display. When the correct name/password is entered, then Word would log in to the ftp site and retrieve the document. Alas, no longer using the same code.

Do you really want the FTP dialog? Might be nice just to open the document by having the FTP login automated.

If that interests you, put the login parameters into a text file:

    open 123.123.123.321
    user mrsmith
    pass hello
    get worddocument.doc

and pass the file into ftp.exe:

    shell "command.com /c ftp.exe -n -slogin.txt", vbhide
