Outlook 2000 and Exchange Server (Outlook 2000)

I tried to install Outlook on my new computer running WinXP which is also part of my new home network. When I try to open Outlook I get the "Microsoft Exchange Server" box. My network is a simple crossover cable between the two computers and is working well. The Exchange Server doesn't recognize the name of my network. It will open the defalt file, but I can't access any of the options in Outlook. It "Cannot Open Defaly Mailbox"I tried reinstalling which didn't help. Outlook Help files were of no help. I really need this program and am getting very frustrated. Thanks for any help. RonC

Let me assume that you are not running Exchange Server on your home network. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> Let me also assume that you want to use Outlook to retrieve and send from a POP account over your Internet connection.

Look for Tools, Accounts (Internet Mode) or Tools, Services. You need to edit your profile so that there is no Exchange Server account/service, and instead there is an Internet Mail account/service. If you run into problems setting that up, please post again and clarify the problem areas.

You are correct in your assumption that I don't want to run Microsoft Exchange Server. My Tools does not list either Accounts or Services. The choices unter Tools are Advanced Find, Macros, Advanced Find and Map Network Drive. What now? Thanks, RonC

That's probably because you are logging on without an account. Or the menu is hidden. Hover over the menu or disable smart menus in view | toolbar | customize, options menu.

Right click on the outlook desktop icon and choose properties. Check the properties of the existing profile and delete the exchange account and add an internet mail one. Once outlook loads with an account, you can use tools | options | mail services tab to change to IMO mode if you want.
