    Keeping History??? (IE6???)

    I have a friend with a new WinXP machine that would like to keep tabs on where her son is surfing. Unfortunatly he's found the "Clear History" button and uses it so there's no way to back track.
    Is there anyway to disable Clear History or keep some kind of record of where he's been?
    Thanks,

    C DeWitt

    One can also look at what 'cookies' have been saved and have a look at the temp internet files. But some of these kids are going to be smarter that their parents no matter what is done.

    Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Agree with the sentiments above. Your friend can disable the "Internet Options" dialogue box -- so that the Clear History button will not appear. But, that may only stop the simplest of teenagers.

    I personally recommend your friend stop trying to spy on his son. If he cannot trust his son after raising the child, then his problems are far greater than where his son went surfing...

    Edit: Despite my soapboxing, I cannot resist a challenge. ;-)

    Here is how to specifically disable the History pane on the General tab of Internet Options. This would be a surgical strike to blocking the "Clear History" button.

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftInternet ExplorerControl Panel]
    "History"=dword:00000001

    If you wanted to remove the General tab completely, add this value:

    "GeneralTab"=dword:00000001
