    No menu bar

    I crashed Word 2000 SR1 and lost my menu and toolbars. I uninstalled and deleted the office dir and re-installed. No joy. I even deleted my normal.dot but still no menu or toolbars. I have attached a image (4k) of all that I can see in Word.

    Have a look at this earlier thread here - it may be the same sort of thing.

    The following might be a little drastic, but might be worth a try, particularly if your next step is to do something like reinstall Word:

    Sub ShowAllToolbars()
    Dim cbr As CommandBar
    For Each cbr In CommandBars
    On Error Resume Next
    If cbr.BuiltIn Then
    cbr.Visible = True
    End If
    Next cbr
    End Sub

    Actually, running this leads to interesting results (if you don't mind closing up all those open toolbars afterwards) - it exposed a whole bunch of toolbars I didn't even know existed! (My favorite of that bunch: Extended Formatting - weird stuff on there!)

    Re: No menu bar

    Although I see that this problem was resolved with a macro, (great idea BTW <grin>) just to pass along the underlying problem/reason for this.

    For some reason a value in the Registry becomes corrupt. So far there really hasn't been a resolution from MS as to why this happens.

    For future reference here is the key:

    Word 97: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice8.0
    WordData
    Word 2K: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice9.0WordDat a

    Within that key is a Toolbars value and deleting it resolves the problem. Word re-creates this key upon starting.

    Also note that one should take the necessary precautions prior to editing the Registry. If you are unsure of what those are, look up "restoring the Registry" and "backing up the registry" in the Registry Help.

    Cheers!
