Re: Startup Script Help? (Win XP Pro)

You need to read the KB again. It states that "This problem can occur if there is <font color=red>no drive C</font color=red> on your computer"

If you do what you are trying to do and you have a "C" drive you will lose it and maybe even never get it back

Re: Startup Script Help? (Win XP Pro)

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the warning. But unless I'm totally misunderstanding something very important, I <font color=red> don't </font color=red> have a c: drive and this shouldn't be a problem. When I did a clean install of WinXP Pro (after wiping what used to be called my C drive), the system was set up with the F: drive as the boot drive, and there is no C or D or E drive. The cause of this is another story (documented on this board as "Change Drive Letter of Root Drive?" beginning with my post #115775. Sorry I don't know how to link directly.) I use drive letters A, B, F, G, & H.

At any rate, I don't have a C drive -- or at least I didn't until I typed the "subst" command as instructed by MSKB. Now I have something of a virtual C drive that mirrors my F drive once I run the subst command. But unless I misunderstand your concern, I should be okay with this, and I should be able to run the subst command as as login or startup script. Am I wrong?

Thanks for any and all help.

OK, just wanted to warn you, as I missed the fact that you did NOT have a C drive.
