Keyboard Macro to Open File (Word2000 9.0.3821 SR1/Win95A)

Is it possible to have a macro to do this? What I want is to have a macro achieve what I can do with keying File Open Shift-Tab Home. File Open defaults to a directory where I keep all the sub directories for particular files. The dialog box default to the details layout. It has the most recent file highlighted with the directories above that file. Shift Tab takes me into the list of directories and files and home takes me right to the top of the dialog, so I can then scroll down thru the directories and find the one I want.

Also, FWIW, is there a utility etc that lets you have the dialog box on file open take up more of the screen - not asking too much, surely.

Thanks, all.

Hi Will:
I'll be watching this one myself, because I've always found the behavior you describe irritating. In the meantime, I have noticed one thing about the File/Open dialog box in Word 2000. If all your files are in sub folders (i.e. no "loose" files on the end), the dialog box opens with the subfolders showing from the top (Home). My "solution" was to put the current ones in a folder called "!Misc", which always sorts to the top.

This was a start, but I can't find a way to get to the box that lies between "Name" and "LookIn".

FWIW there appears to be no .DefaultTab value of .LookIn.

I struggled a bit with Sendkeys "+{TAB}" without success. I suspect that Sendkeys is disabled during the .Show?

Sub Macro1()

Dim dlg As Dialog
Set dlg = Dialogs(wdDialogFileOpen)

With dlg
Dim strDir As String
strDir = .Name
.Name = "d:greavestraining"
.Show
End With
End Sub

Thanks, Chris. Along with Phil's tip, things have gotten easier at least. I can't suggest a way forward on the macro challenge you found.

Regards
