Folder Display (XP Pro)

    I have set a File explorer to go to c: , but it always opens without the folders (left hand pane) being shown. Can you tell me how to open it with the folders shown?

    Thanks in Advance

    Try using
%SystemRoot%explorer.exe /n, /e,c:

    for the shortcut. I believe it is the /e switch which gets you the two-pane view.

    Thanks;
    Your solution solved my problem. Never had the problem with W98.

    When I right-click the Start button and then click Explore, it opens to Cocuments and SettingsRickyStart Menu with Programs being the lone folder in the right hand pane. Is this changeable? I'd prefer to have Explorer open up to the C: only.

    The reason that it happens like that is because you are Exploring the currently logged on users' start menu.

    You can open Explorer to the standard drive listing only if you have a Windows-enhanced keyboard (with the flag by the spacebar) by pressing WIN+E. I have the address bar in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, and you can type EXPLORER in there and it will open expanded to My Documents. The last option is to use the shortcut described previously and create a hotkey to it (see the latest issue of Woody's WinXP Watch).

    Thanks, that makes perfect sense. And I can't believe it didn't occur to me to use the Win+Key. I seldom remember to use the keyboard shortcuts.

    Speaking of My Documents, take a look at that post

    Tricky & Halek2,

    I get the same results by creating a shortcut like this:
