    Also: you can use ZoneAlarm to monitor all your Internet activity; free version allows you to block Internet access for programs trying to connect and creates log file that shows all connections from your computer (you can use ZoneLog Analyser to sort and search entries in your log file).

    These would usually be "Trojans", so an Anti-Trojan program might be helpful. There are several on the market -- many of which have free trials.
