Security Problem (v2)

I have created workgroups and invoked user logins with appropriate permissions. Each new user is then joined to the security database, and receive login prompts from then on.
I have a new user, who when I try to join to the security model, the join does not "stick". It does not prompt for a login, and when I go back with workgroup administrator, it is showing the standard C:...system.MDA instead of the correct s:Bonussystem.mda.
Can anyone assist in discovering why the join does not take affect.

Re: Security Problem (v2)

I've not seen this behavior with Version 2.0 of Access, but we have seen it with dual installs of 97 and 2000 (on the same PC). 2000 has this habit of trying to repair the installation, and repoints the security file to the default once you've run 97.

Does your join never stick? If not, does the new user have read/write permissions on the folder and the system.mda file? If it does stick, but just for a while, is there any external event that can be associated with it becoming unstuck? Is it possible that the connection to the S: drive gets dropped? Another alternative is to specify the system.mda file path in the /wrkgrp command line option - I believe that was supported in V2. Post if you get some additonal clues.

Re: Security Problem (v2)

Hi Wendell.
Thanks for those pointers. I think I now have this sussed. This installation was the first on a w2K PC. I logged on as administrator, connected to the network drive and then went through the join process.
Re-started PC, checked the MSACCESS.ini file in the WINNT directory and checked that the entry had changed. It had.
Logged the user back on and bingo, password box pops up. So problem was related to permissions.
Lesson learnt - make sure you think about the OP system before you do the process that worked on other PC's!!
Many thanks for your thoughtful and considered reply.
