Word as E-Mail Editor (Office 2000)

I am trying to find a way to turn off the option to use Word as Outlook's e-mail editor enterprise-wide. We have AD running, so I'd like to do this through Group Policy. I think what I need is the control ID for the menu item (checkbox) in Outlook under Tools|Options|MailFormat|Use MS Word to edit e-mail messages.

Does anyone know how to find out the control ID for this option?

    Thanks!

As that option is in a dialog rather than on a CommandBar, I'm not sure it has a control ID.

Have you already checked the .adm file for Outlook that comes with the Office Resource Kit policy documentation?

it doesn't, it uses a registry entry.

the key is editorpreference, value of 20001 is word. if nothing else, you can use a logon script to change it.

    For Outlook 2000, same place:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice9.0Outlook OptionsMail

EditorPreference value for native OL editor is 10000 hex.

Thanks to both of you. What I think this means is that the only way to accomplish the goal (disable the checkbox, so the user can't re-enable it themselves) is to set security on that registry entry. I'll try that out and post the process out here in case others are interested.

I did look in the .adm templates and this is not one of the included options, at least for Office 2000. Never a dull moment...
