    Printing problems:

I have about a one-year old Epson Stylus Color 740 printer connected to a Gateway 350MHZ, PII computer.

Recently, when I try to print, the print monitor window comes up, but intermittently, the monitor window closes, and it doesn't print. I've tried downloading the latest drivers, and have even switched from a parallel cable to a USB cable, all to no avail.

I would greatly appreciate some ideas before I try buying a new printer--this one isn't all that old.

If you are using a "Print Icon" and this printer is NOT the default printer this will happen every time. Have you tried using the menu, "file, print" to see if this will work?

Yes, I almost always print from the file menu and not the print icon.

Make sure that there is not any print jobs still in the 'que', any of these that have dad a problem can and will stop the printing.

    Re: Printing problems:

That's part of the problem. When the que window appears with the job, shortly thereafter, the job and window disappear without any printing.

    Re: Printing problems:

Go to "Start, Settings, printers" and then select your printer. It should open the printer status box. If any jobs are listed, delete them. Also make sure that there are NO paused print jobs listed.

This is the area I have been asking you to provide information from.

Yes, I went there and opened the Epson icon. There were zero jobs in the queue.

Can you print the test page? (Properties | Print test page)
    Did you run Windows troubleshooter?
