    arial alternative (Word 2000)

We attempted to use this font on a Word document. However, we have noticed that entire words are not brought over to the next line. The word is split at the end of the line.
Does this font have an special propertites or uses?
    Thank you very much.

There is nothing special about the arial font. You need to check your hyphenation options.
Goto Tools>Language>Hyphenation... for the relevant options.

I think Alan is talking about "Arial Alternative", a monospaced font that was used with Hyperterminal and Minitel software?

I haven't used it myself, but it might be a "decorative" font like "Symbol" or "Wingdings". In that case, Word thinks that text in this font is just a bunch of symbols, and won't hyphenate properly.

Select some text that is formatted in "Arial Alternate", and open "Insert > Symbol". Does the dialog show "Subsets" at the top right? If not, the font is a decorative font.
