    win2k slow browsing with NT

    Win2000 pro SP2 networked to NT4 server SP6a running WINS
    Win 2000 is very slow when browsing network shares compared to 98; can take up to 30 seconds to display items. Is dependant on the no if items in the share - more items, longer time. The following registry changes have been made but nothing has worked so far.
    To stop Win 2k looking for schedules tasks on remote machines:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace
    Under that branch, select the key: {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

    Also, a registry change has been made to stop Win 2k advertising itself as a possible master browser. The network card is using the most up to date driver.
    Please can someone help? Its driving my user nuts!

    Re: win2k slow browsing with NT

    Control Panel | Administrative Tools Services.
    Stop and disable Alerter, Computer Browser and Messenger services.

    If you use Novell, check http://www.ithowto.com/novell/clientspeed.htm for many useful tweaks.

    Re: win2k slow browsing with NT

    I did this on the Win 2000 machine and it made no difference. I then thought you may have meant try it on my NT machine which I did - but it made no difference either. Am I doing something wrong?
