    Outlook - My Shortcuts Bar

    Outlook 2000, SR-1A, CW, Exchange Server 5.5 SP3, NT 4 SP6

I have a Division Director who, in the process of adding a new folder in his Outlook mailbox, when prompted by Outlook regarding "do you want to add this folder to the My Shortcuts bar" answered "NO".

He now wants this prompt back (of course!).

I showed him how he can right-click on the folder name displayed in the folder list and tell Outlook to add the folder to the Outlook Bar (if you are displaying My Shortcuts, it puts it on My Shortcuts, not on the Outlook Shortcuts bar). This isn't good enough for him.

Any clue as to how to get the prompt back about adding newly created folders to the Outlook bar?

    Thanks in advance!

Rename the folder, add a new folder, move everything from the old folder to the new folder, delete the old folder.

Thank you for the prompt reply, however, what is desired here is that Outlook _PROMPT_ the user when creating a folder about adding the folder to the shortcut bar.

    Thanks.

He will get the same prompt when he creates the new folder with the same name as the one he renamed.

And for newly created folders (with new, unique names), will he then be prompted about adding the folder to the shortcut bar?

    Thank you.

This settings can be undone by editing the registry, please back up the registry first, and if you are not familiar with registry editing, I can give further instructions.

    Navigate to this key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice9.0Outlook OptionsNewFolder

Change the DWORD value for NoShortcutPrompt to 0 to get the prompt back

Note: This key is only present if you have turned of the message box (it may be present if you set other options as well, but not sure about that)

    Thanks JamesB!

    That did the trick.

    Much obliged.
