Eudora 5.1 From Netscape (Netscape 4.79)

In the process of trying to start using Eudora 5.1 and let it import my existing Netscape email, Eudora seems to have trouble with the fact that MANY of my Netscape mail folders have sub-folders under them. The Eudora import process looks like it goes according to plan, but when it gets through, the sub-folders imported from Netscape are EMPTY of their messages. Can't find anything that 'splains this on the Eudora web site. Anybody know if it can be worked around, aside from doing it manually. I have tried doing a couple by hand, by addilg the .FOL or .MBX to the sub-folders, but what a nightmare! I've got a BUNCH of 'em!

I can't help you solve your problem but given it was posted sometime ago I'm wondering if you are prepared now to comment on your experience of how Eudora 5.1 coexists with Netscape.

For historical reasons, at work, I use Eudora 3 Light + Netscape 4.78. All was well until I got a new PC that upgraded NT4 to Win 2000. Since then I have suffered several .mbx corruptions (large pieces of text disappear). Given the age of Eudora 3 it might be expected to be unstable under Win 2000 so I'm not looking for sympathy.

Officially my options are to grin and bear it or switch to the Netscape email client but I might be able get our IT people to cut me some slack and let me try Eudora 5.1.

    Thanks,

Yeah, you're right, I should've come back and said something. I never could get Eudora to properly import my Netscape mail (4.79) because I have mail folders nested within mail folders. However, by a process of renaming and moving Netscape mail folders ALL up onto the "main trunk" I was able to cobble it up semi-manually. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

In the final analysis, I really didn't feel comfortable with Eudora, so I dropped it. There wasn't anything specific I can put my finger on, I just didn't like it. Right about that time, I decided to switch my browser and email system to Mozilla (as many Lounge'ers can attest) and have been MUCH MORE satisfied. Mozilla is much more "compliant" (whatever that means) and I don't have trouble with a bunch of web sites like I used to with Netscape 4.x. As you probably know, most people end up hating Netscape 6.x so for many of us, Mozilla is a much better alternative.

So no real problems then, just a matter of personal preference?
