    AOL Instant Messenger Question

I use AIM quite a bit and have been for the past couple of years.

Haven't really had any problems until the last couple of days. Two days ago, someone I didn't know tried to contact me. I accepted the message because I thought it might be someone I knew. Turned out it wasn't and just ended up blocking them. Figured no harm no foul.

Well, now I get blasted with message requests everytime I'm on. I'll get three or four every minute.
I ended up changing the settings to only accept messages from people in my buddy list.

My question is: What happened? And what could happen? Are there security issues I need to be concerned with?

I like the AIM product (plus it's the only IM that works through the firewall), and I'd like to keep using it.

It sounds like a AOL issue. Your user name may have been published some place and now you are being it with a different type of SPAM. You might contact AOL and check with them.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: AOL Instant Messenger Question

Indeed. Perhaps if you are an AOL subscriber they actually respond. I submitted a technical issue to them some time ago regarding a "new mail" notification, despite the fact that I don't have an AOL account - email or otherwise.

Perhaps a better solution would be to create a new login name for AIM and gradually transition your contacts to the new, spam-free user name.
