    Documnet control issues (W2k, W2k)

As with anybody else that is a document control person I have an issue with recording the dates documents are issued.

What I would like to do is to have a central document that list all the documents that need controlling and has the issue date alongside the document name. Most of the documents are composites. ie They contain several individual documents all with differing issue date sthat are show in a footer.

Does anyone know of a way I can automatically copy these dates into the control document. It seems to me that to write code to do this, copy and paste each date, would be kind of laborious!

Re: Document control issues (W2k, W2k)

I can imagine a macro that checks each section in the open document and records in a log the document's name and/or other identifying information, the date in the footer and/or the current date, etc. Appending is pretty easy. If you want to update a specific row in a table (either a Word table or database table) or spreadsheet (if it exists), then there is considerably more work involved, since you need a reliable way to match up your current document's multiple sections with the proper row(s).

Does this help? Do you want to describe your needs in more detail?

I've been thinking more about this and the more I think about it the worse it gets. To try and code this would be horrendous. <img src=/S/flee.gif border=0 alt=flee width=25 height=25>

Thanks all the same for the offer but I think I will stick to a manual system.
